The Rev. Mike Myers, Pastor
Mike and Ellen Myers met at Denver Seminary and were married in 2008. Ellen grew up in Cincinnati, OH, and Mike is originally from Johnsonville, SC. After Mike’s ordination in 2014, they moved from Colorado Springs to Murrells Inlet, SC, where Mike served as an associate and youth pastor. During their time in Murrells Inlet, God clarified and confirmed a call to church plant that had been stirring for several years. After much prayer, it became clear God was leading the Myers and others to Spartanburg to plant The Gathering Church. In early 2018, Mike and Ellen started Vista Pressure Washing which provides an additional means for engaging the community and supporting the family. The Myers are excited to be in Spartanburg connecting with their neighbors, playing outside, and growing in love and faith as a family.
Jake Poteat, Worship Pastor
Kathleen Poteat, Children’s Pastor
Jake and Kathleen met while studying at Clemson University. Soon after graduating, they married and moved to Spartanburg where Kathleen worked as a first grade teacher at Meeting Street Academy and Jake continued the pursuit of his music career . While working in the classroom, God laid on Kathleen’s heart the desire to step away from teaching and work in a church. In early 2019, Kathleen and Jake began meeting periodically with the Myers family, where they learned the heart and mission of The Gathering Church. Almost immediately after meeting Mike and his wonderful family, Kathleen and Jake knew The Gathering would be their new church home. With Jake’s passion for sharing Christ’s love through music and Kathleen’s love for children, The Gathering was the perfect fit.
Crissy Wilson, Local Missions Coordinator
Crissy Wilson was born and raised in Spartanburg. She met her husband Jason and two daughters, Avery and Payton in 2012. The Wilson family was blessed with a son, Tate, in 2015. After nine years of dental work, Crissy began to feel a call to speak into pain and suffering. A service opportunity sparked even further calling in Crissy’s life, leaving her forever changed and on mission. As a board member and volunteer of an equine therapy facility, she participated in a summer work program aimed to teach life skills. It was there she began pouring her heart into teen girls from a local residential care facility. By the end of the summer, Crissy made the decision to leave behind a career as a dental assistant to invest in hurting people. Crissy holds a Bachelor of Science degree with a focus on the Sociology of Grief and a minor in Non-Profit Administration. She knows firsthand the healing power of the gospel and is passionate about bringing the hope of Christ to people who may feel hopeless. The Lord has gifted her with an authentic compassion and tender-heartedness that He uses to minister to hurting people.
